Global true wireless stereo (TWS) shipments fell 0.7% year-over-year (YoY) to 82.1 million units in the second quarter of 2026, according to Omdia. That was the first YoY decline since 2Q23. These mobile accessories statistics start with earbuds because we found no regulator, statistics agency or company filing that publishes a global total for phone accessories, and the market sizes quoted by research sellers sit behind paywalls.
Company filings carry the money side instead. In fiscal 2025, Apple’s Wearables, Home and Accessories sales were $35,686 million, down from $37,005 million a year earlier. Reported in Chinese renminbi (RMB), Anker’s revenue from smart charging and power storage products rose 31.0% to RMB 8,930.2 million in the first half of 2026. EU charging rules set the port for devices sold in the EU, and Qi2 certification sets the terms for wireless chargers that carry the Qi2 label.

- Apple maintained its dominance in North America, holding over 50% market share in Q1 2025.
- The US market returned to growth in Q1 2025, posting double-digit year-on-year gains, largely driven by preemptive inventory buildup in response to tariff uncertainties.
View the data
Key finding: In 3Q25, Apple remained the global revenue leader despite a 4% shipment decline, capturing around half of all TWS market value through ecosystem strength and premium positioning, Omdia found. Its unit share was 23% in Q1 2025. Earbud value is far more concentrated than earbud volume, so unit rankings understate Apple’s position.

EU USB-C Common Charger Mandate Timeline
- All new devices sold in the EU must now support USB-C charging.
- You can charge your mobile phone and other similar electronic devices with one USB-C charger, regardless of the device brand.
- The EU’s Common Charger Directive was approved by the Council of the EU in October 2022.
- Under Directive (EU) 2022/2380, Member States had to adopt and publish the necessary laws by December 28, 2023.
- From December 28, 2024, the rules apply to devices sold in the EU, including mobile phones, tablets, headphones, headsets, portable speakers and earbuds.
- Since April 28, 2026, they have also applied to laptops.
- The USB Type-C receptacle, combined with the USB Power Delivery protocol, is capable of providing up to 100 Watts of power.

When did the EU USB-C charger rule start?
From December 28, 2024, the rules apply to devices sold in the EU, including mobile phones, headphones and earbuds. Since April 28, 2026, they have also applied to laptops. The directive was approved by the Council of the EU in October 2022, and manufacturers were given a transition period to adjust their designs.
USB-C Charger E-Waste and Savings Estimates
- Discarded and unused chargers account for about 11,000 tonnes of e-waste annually, the European Commission said in December 2024.
- In its 2021 proposal, the Commission said a voluntary approach already brought down the number of mobile phone chargers from 30 to 3 within the last decade.
- Reducing production and disposal of new chargers is estimated to reduce the amount of electronic waste by almost a thousand tonnes yearly.
- Producers will need to provide information on charging performance, including the power required by the device and if it supports fast charging.
- The two e-waste figures measure different things: the larger counts all discarded chargers, the smaller only the cut expected from unbundling.
| Estimate | Figure | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| E-waste from discarded and unused chargers | about 11,000 tonnes a year | European Commission, December 2024 |
| Consumer savings from buying devices without a charger | approximately €250 million a year | European Commission, December 2024 |
| E-waste cut from unbundling chargers | almost a thousand tonnes a year | European Commission, September 2021 |
| Power from USB Type-C with USB Power Delivery | up to 100 Watts | Directive (EU) 2022/2380, Parliament and Council, November 2022 |

Qi2 Wireless Charging Adoption
- Fourteen devices, receivers and transmitters, completed Qi2 25W certification testing in a limited launch in July 2025.
- Qi2 25W delivers nearly 70% more power than the original Qi2, said Fady Mishriki, chair of the WPC’s Board of Directors.
- With that launch, in addition to Apple iPhone, major Android smartphones will join the Qi2 ecosystem for the first time, the WPC said.
- Faster wireless charging is the number one consumer-requested feature to improve wireless charging satisfaction, according to WPC market research.
- Over 1,200 new Qi2 products, transmitters and receivers, became certified in 2025.
| Milestone | Date | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| Qi2 launch | November 2023 | 15 watts of charging power |
| Qi2 25W limited launch | July 2025 | Fourteen devices certified |
| Qi2 25W power versus original Qi2 | July 2025 | nearly 70% more power |
| New Qi2 products certified | 2025 | over 1,200 |
| Expected Qi2 product shipments | Within five years of January 2026 | nearly four billion |
Source: Wireless Power Consortium, July 2025 and January 2026
Why it matters: Nearly four billion Qi2 products are expected to ship within the next five years, the WPC projected in January 2026. In the EU, all new devices sold must now support USB-C charging. Wired and wireless charging are each converging on one standard, which narrows the charger types accessory makers have to support.
Power Bank Recall Statistics
- Anker recalled about 1,158,000 of its PowerCore 10000 power banks, model A1263 only, through the CPSC on June 12, 2025.
- The lithium-ion battery in the power bank can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.
- Anker has received 19 reports of fires and explosions, according to the CPSC recall notice.
- The power banks were sold online at Anker, Amazon, Newegg and Ebay from June 2016 through December 2022.
- Anker Innovations Limited, of China, manufactured the recalled units in China.
| Recall detail | Figure |
|---|---|
| Units recalled | about 1,158,000 |
| Reports of fires and explosions | 19 |
| Reports of minor burn injuries | two |
| Reports of property damage | 11 |
| Property damage reported | over $60,700 |
| Retail price | about $27 |
Source: US Consumer Product Safety Commission, June 2025
Recall scope: The recall covers Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks, model A1263 only, and the remedy is a replacement. Other PowerCore models are outside this recall notice, so the model number on the unit decides whether it applies.
Conclusion
Global TWS shipments fell to 82.1 million units in the second quarter of 2026. In fiscal 2025, Apple’s Wearables, Home and Accessories line reported $35,686 million in net sales. Earbud volume has stopped growing, Apple keeps the value end, and Anker’s charging business is one of the lines where the filings show accessory growth.
Charging standards are the slower force: USB-C rules in the EU and Qi2 certifications are shrinking the number of charger types a phone owner has to buy. The next Omdia quarter and Anker’s full-year report will show whether the earbud slowdown holds.
