Making it Truly Yours: 7 Simple Ways to Customize Your Smartphone

Your phone is your blank canvas, an empty vessel of possibility with which you can add your own unique sense of style and flair. These are the seven ways that you can customize your smartphone and turn it into a reflection of your quirks, sense of style, personality and taste.

    Change the Wallpaper

The factory-set phone background gets old very quickly. Change the look of your home screen to something a little more inspiring to add a little more flair to your device.

    A New Case

Phone cases are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Aside from offering an opportunity for customization and personalization, a new phone case will protect your phone in the event of an accident. Head to Custom Envy cases for a wide selection of functional and cool phone case designs.

    Add Shortcuts

If there are apps that you use more frequently than others, it might make sense to put these apps in a prominent place on your home screen. Most smartphones have a function which allows you to drag and drop that apps you most often use onto your home screen, allowing you to access them in one touch and removing the need to scroll through unnecessary menus.

    Add Widgets

You can add widgets to android home screens. These are small icons on your home screen that can give you information quickly. There are widgets that display the weather, a calendar, news items, sports scores, fitness trackers, social media updates, and anything else you can think of. They are another novel way to customize your phone’s home screen.

    Try a Different Keyboard

There are plenty of third-party keyboards on offer if you want to ditch the factory issue keyboard. You can also get GIF keyboards, and keyboards with customizable autocorrect settings to vocabulary and slang that you use regularly. This means you don’t have the phone correcting unnecessary words and adjusting your slang when you are typing. Swype and Swiftkey are two to try if you aren’t happy with your phone’s default keyboard.

    Install an Icon Pack

Icon packs replace your phone’s icons with a new set, giving it a makeover. You will need to install a launcher from Google play first but once you have one you are free to modify your icons with whichever design you like.

Icon packs can be purchased for as little as 99 cents from the Google Play store and can give your phone a fresh feel.

    Root Your Device

For the ultimate customization, you can root your device. This essentially untethered your phone from the manufacturer and carried (it can violate your warranty and insurance so be sure to check the small print).

The benefit of rooting your phone is that you are free to get a contract from whichever carrier you want. You can also download new skins, update your operating system earlier and get rid of any bloatware that may be hindering the phone’s performance. It unlocks the phone’s full potential and although it can be challenging, comes with a host of customization benefits.
