How IoT will drive the future of Smart City Development

Author: Tushar Thakur   Last updated on: January 30, 2019    Leave a Comment

With a plan to make the future for 1.31 billion people easy going by providing them with best of services and infrastructure, IoT is contributing a lot. We all know how the population is growing in our country every day.

IoT Smart City Development

And this is resulting in the depletion of environmental resources and need of more space, infrastructure and better services. But all thanks to IoT that is the Internet of Things to help us in building a better future with the smart plans and smart moves.

IoT Solutions for Smart Cities

In the past few years, we have witnessed some of the changes which are because of the IoT only. This all has been planned to make the smart cities better and more advanced for the survival. By now the government has decided to make around 100 cities well developed and well equipped with the technologies.

It’s all on IoT to bring such environment-friendly and a better place for the citizens of these cities. Here are some of the sectors which are in the list of the development with the help of IoT.

Privacy and Security

This is the most relevant and must needed development. This should be the first step towards the Smart City Development. With the help of this, it will become easier and more feasible for the police to keep a track on all the areas of the city.

By making video surveillance facility available across the city, it will be easy for monitoring the activities happening across the street. As we all know the number of crimes that take place in every city these days be in terms of theft, harassment, murder, abduction or any other such crime.

To keep them in control a good technology and proper tracking system is required. So that it becomes easy to hold on to criminals or the wanted criminals or murderers who have been roaming around free in the cities.

By using the IoT, the tech developers, the government, and city administration are deciding to implant such technology in the city that can provide complete security to the citizens. The planning to place such technologies has already started.

This may include high-tech resources and detection systems as well as the one in New York City, where the gunshot detection technology is been placed. We all are hoping that the technology developers can make the best use of IoT to bring the privacy and security across the streets.

Traffic Management

Undoubtedly, this sector requires a lot of changes and improvements and not in just a few cities but in the maximum number of cities. At present, the IoT is focussing more on adding smart sensors to existing infrastructure like construction cones for construction sites, and these sensors will be connected to help control assets, improving low-cost living phenomenon.

The population is increasing every now and then in the cities and the major reason is the shift from rural areas to urban areas. And this has been going on from a long time. With the increase in population it’s obvious to have a greater number of cars, motorcycles, and other such road transport.

Metros have however helped a lot in reducing the traffic problem but by now the problem has again returned to its own phase.

To resolve this issue, IoT has helped a lot before also by bringing in some new innovations. Traffic lights have been placed almost everywhere, roads been improved, and parking systems have also been improved.

But still in many of the cities, and especially in some of the areas in the cities, this problem exists. From bringing in Parking Automation Technology in use to bringing in the real-time traffic management and information system for drivers, IoT is going to help a lot.

This will improve the traffic experience for drivers by removing almost all the traffic barriers coming on their way resulting in smooth driving.

Smart Infrastructure and save on energy

Let’s start with the save on energy first. Because we all are already doing that by making the use of smart bulbs. The elevators have been placed in most of the places is again a step towards saving the manpower.

Updated meter systems for the use of electricity, gas, and water by placing smart meters. The smart infrastructure plan is required as the impact of the buildings overall infrastructure also is making use of more energy. So, with the help of IoT, a better framework for smart infrastructure can be designed.

So, that the energy consumed does not gets wasted. And we all can use energy efficiently and in a better way.

Final words

So, by now you know some of the major changes that IoT is going to bring in the year 2019. Let’s look forward to having better and advanced cities by the end of 2019.
