One of the most popular card games worldwide is poker. And precisely the range of methods to play is one of the factors that contribute to its popularity. So, it’s no coincidence that this game attracts thousands of new players each year because some variations of poker are simple to master.
In the same way, other modalities, more complex and with different rules, also help to transform good players into lovers of this game. That’s why, in today’s article, we will present the six primary existing modalities. And who doesn’t like to gamble when it comes to poker?

1. Texas Hold’Em

The most common variation of poker is this one. Even in Las Vegas, where most significant international competitions take place, it is a common type of argument.
The game’s simple and clear rules allow for many techniques and tactics, which makes matches more contentious and thrilling. Each player’s primary goal is to take home the cash or chips placed in a “pot” by rivals.
Using a regular 52-card deck, Texas Hold’Em allows for participation from two to ten players. Two face-down cards are dealt to each player. The remaining five community cards, often known as the board and shared by all players, are dealt by the dealer.
Most importantly, remember that the five cards are not opened right away. In the first instance, a set of three cards known as the flop is opened. The fourth card is then placed on the board, which is known as the turn, and the fifth and last community card (known as the river) is then turned over.
After the last community card is on the table, the remaining players go to showdown, showing their two-hole cards. The player with the best five-card combination wins the hand and all the chips in the pot.
However, if your opponents don’t cover their bets and fold their cards at some stage of the game, from the deal to the river, a showdown might not take place. In this manner, the winner collects the pot without having to face a showdown or display their cards.
Texas Hold’Em bets are placed at the start of each round and can be played either No-Limit or Fixed-Limit. The rules and the way the game develops are the same. The only difference is the amount of chips players can bet on their turn.
2. Omaha

Omaha is another type of Hold’Em version, but with slight differences. And just like Texas, it can be played between two to ten people at each table.
It also has four betting rounds. However, what changes are that players receive four cards in their hand and need to play their game with two combinations, with three cards turned over on the table.
PLO 5 Cards
A variation of Omaha that is a hit and often played on apps like PPPoker is called Pot Limit Omaha 5 Cards. The rules are essentially the same as 4-card Omaha, but with one more card to make the game even hotter!
3. Seven-Card Stud

When compared to the Hold’Em game, Card Stud, or Seven Card Stud, differs significantly in how it is played. Typically, Fixed-Limit is used to play it.
There are no more community cards on the table, and each player is given seven cards. Each player receives two hole cards and one open card at the start of the game. The required wager, or “they bring in,” is made by the person whose card has the lowest value when it is revealed.
After that, each player receives three new cards, interspersed with a betting round. Within these rounds, the one who initiates the betting is the one who has the highest hand counting only the available cards.
Finally, before the last round, everyone is dealt the last hole card before dropping their hands. Whoever has the best five-card game wins the pot. As the game is low, the best possible hand is an Ace to Five straight.
4. Five Card Draw

Also known as Closed Poker, Five Card Draw is a more superficial modality in which each player receives five face-down cards. Then the betting rounds take place. After the initial games, players can exchange a card (if they wish). Whoever has the best hand wins the pot.
Card Draw has other game variations, such as:
- Triple Draw 2-7;
- Lowball;
- Single Draw 2-7 Lowball.
In Draw games – discard – it is common for the deck to run out during the dispute. In such cases, a reshuffle takes place. In single-discard games, players’ discarded cards do not enter the reshuffle. Therefore, there is no possibility that you will receive a card that you discarded during the game.
If the game is multiple discards, such as 2-7 Triple Draw, all remaining cards plus discarded cards are shuffled and placed back into play.
5. Courchevel

Courchevel is a new sport that has only recently started participating in BSOP events. Its popularity among practitioners was great because it is an aspect that provides more excellent action among players.
Each player has five hole cards in this style, while a single card is revealed on the table before the first round. In the second round, the last two cards of the flop are dealt. The turn and river are the same in Hold’em and Omaha.
